The Relationship of Awareness and Participation with Solid Waste Management Behavior among Residents of Na Kluea Subdistrict, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province

The objectives of this study were to 1) awareness and public participation in solid waste management, 2) solid waste management behavior of the public, and 3) the relationship between awareness and participation and solid waste management behavior among the public. The conceptual framework was applied to the awareness and participation theories of Benjamin bloom. The study methodology was quantitative research. The population consisted of 13,108 people. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane’s formula, resulting in 389 participants, who were selected through multistage sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The Index of item-objective congruence (IOC) was 0.87, and the overall reliability coefficient was 0.92. Statistics used for the data analysis include percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and Pearson correlation coefficients. The results of the study found that 1) the public's awareness of solid waste management was at a high level (Mean = 3.87, S.D. = 0.89), 2) the solid waste management behavior of the residents was at a high level on average (Mean = 3.82, S.D. = 0.66), 3) awareness and participation were positively correlated with the solid waste management behavior of the public at a statistically significant level of .01 (r = 0.60, p< .01). This study indicated that government agencies should raise public awareness and encourage people to participate in waste management, as this would promote proper waste management behaviors among the public
